Hi Vishnu,   Am a big fan of

Hi Vishnu,

Am a big fan of your travelogues and thanks to them, I even visited Ladakh in peak winters. It was simply out of the world. Thanks for all the info.

Need more advice now. Basically planning to visit North Sikkim in mid-Aug 2016. Itinerary would be like:

Day1 - fly into bagdogra and head straight to gangtok. overnight at gangtok.

Day 2 - gangtok to lachen. overnight at lachen.

Day 3 - visit gurudongmar lake and come then to lachung. overnight at lachung.

Day 4 - visit yumthang and back to gangtok. overnight at gangtok

Day 5 - see gangtok. overnight at gangtok.

Day 6 - gangtok to bagdogra and fly out

How does this plan sound? Also, I can modify the itinerary to squeeze in more places (like some passes maybe and skip gangtok alotgether). Plz advice.

Why I made such a relaxed itinerary is because we have a son aged 4 years and my day aged 63 years who would be traveling with us. So for their comfort. On same note, now I want to ask if they would be permitted to visit gurudongmar and other high altitude areas? Will they get permits? What are the actual chances of them suffering from breathlessness and other ailments? Please note that otherwise they are both healthy guys. Plus the initial leg of the itinerary giving them 1 day at gangtok and 1 day at lachen was specifically done to help them acclimatize easily. What say? Need your detailed view here Smile

Another point I wanted clarity about was weather at that time in North Sikkim. Yes, I know it is rainy season. But what would be the actual conditions like? Advisable to go?

Awaiting your rich insights and detailed feedback. Plus any other relevant details u deem would be useful, plz share.

Thanks in advance.

Mitin

Hi Mitin, Glad to hear about

Hi Mitin,

Glad to hear about your journeys. Your itinerary seems perfectly OK and very well outlined. I do not see anything else can be added.

I dont think there is any problem visiting Gurudongmar for a very short period but Army check post before the lake generally does not allow kids and old age people. there is no additional permit required but it is like a precautionary measure from Army side. if both of them are healthy then there is no problem as such visiting these places.

Lachen has decent homestays

Lachen has decent homestays (INNs) where the elderly can stay comfortably. I would not recommend them to travel Gurudongmar since lack of oxygen is pretty evident at 17000 feet. A normal healthy human also feel dizzy. Your permits can be arranged from Gangtok or Mangan. It's advised to leave for gurudongmar from Lachen at 6am-7am
